Some Days Are Darker started as Lear Mason’s solo project after his time playing metalcore guitar. The project later became a trio with Chris Martin on bass, guitar, and keyboards, plus Robbie Williamson on drums, other instruments, and production.

The New York band has shared a new song and video called “Memorize You.” It offers an early look at Black Box Warning, their next album, which they made with Dave Catching at Rancho de la Luna in Joshua Tree, California.

In the chorus, the singer wants to remember every small detail about another person. That feeling begins as deep love, but it soon sounds intense and unhealthy.

The music is tense, fast-moving, and wrapped in a gloomy mood. It starts quietly, then grows larger and more forceful, asking when strong attraction turns into obsession.

“Memorize You” opens on a thrumming bassline that segues into a starkly luminous melody topped by dark, rich vocals revealing emotions from deep inside. On the chorus, the tune takes on flowing yet potent surfaces, infusing the melody with haunting impressions.

“I want to memorize you, your freckles and scars, the longing in your eyes.”

Some Days Are Darker’s note-perfect “Memorize You” makes for a wonderful introduction to the forthcoming Black Box Warning.
