Barth Beasley Premieres His Vibrant “I Used To Be” Music Video

As an artist, Barth Beasley has a unique approach to music. He doesn’t view it as just a creative outlet, but as something of a service to his fellow man.

Today, the singer-songwriter debuts the music video for his latest single “I Used To Be.” It’s the first single from his brand new album Welcome To Studio B. The song, and the album, have been a long time coming. This is Beasley’s first release in eight years, and he makes it very worthwhile. “I Used To Be” is a commentary on friendship and love and how love always finds a way to win out in the end. It’s a return to his signature “rock n’ soul pop” sound, bringing together the best of many musical worlds and rendering them into a fun, radio-friendly sound. The song is a perfect example of Beasley’s focus on writing music rooted in storytelling, faith, and connection.

Discussing the song and video, Beasley states:

“‘I Used To Be’ is a song and music video that captures the relationship between two friends who never saw themselves as more than that. As is typical of Barth Beasley’s songwriting, Welcome To Studio B leans heavily on his roots. Featuring 15 new songs, the album was inspired by his youth, past relationships, highs, lows, faith, and the experiences that have made him into the artist and individual he is today. The record’s beginnings go back a decade, to when a former backup singer asked him to write a few songs. At that time, Beasley had been out of the game for a number of years. In 2008, he took an extended break from music to raise his children and care for his mother in the wake of his father’s passing. He accepted the opportunity to start writing again, which reconnected him with his previous vocal coach, Karen Jennings. The creative wheels began to turn, and although it was a slow process, there was a clear direction throughout.

Welcome To Studio B reflects Beasley’s commitment to serving others through his music. Like with “I Used To Be,” he frames his music positively, hoping you will take something away from it. He sees his role as more of a messenger than an entertainer, and he hopes these songs will encourage you the way the music he loved has throughout his life.
