South London artist Bad With Phones releases his new five-track EP, The Man Who Eats Metal Meat, today. Arriving alongside the EP is the video for “Freedom,” featuring Freddy Forbidden, which is now premiering on V13.

Built around fuzzy guitar riffs, “Freedom” combines electronic and pop elements with a DIY approach. The track follows the previously released “Human” and appears as the second song on The Man Who Eats Metal Meat.

For Bad With Phones, aka Manny T Deroy, “Freedom” represents another stage in the personal journey explored across his recent material. While “Human” focused on vulnerability and self-reflection, its follow-up looks at letting go of the past, living in the present and finding a way forward.

Explaining the idea behind the track, Deroy says:

“Freedom is a journey, a step to find out who you truly are and what you’re truly meant to be doing with the gift of life you’ve been given.”

The new EP sees the Deptford-born bassist, producer and vocalist continue to work across different styles, moving between spoken word, alternative pop and electronic elements across its five tracks. Deroy describes The Man Who Eats Metal Meat as an alter ego representing his resilience and determination to move forward.

“The new character rides spaceships and has a crew of other travellers who travel through worlds and observe realities. They blend in with the times and sometimes they don’t. In this version of reality there’s not so much blending in.”

The Man Who Eats Metal Meat and “Freedom” are both released today.

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
