Maiah Wynne Details Studio Album ‘Into The Waves’; Shares “See The Water”

Maiah Wynne has announced her new studio album, Into The Waves, set for release on September 25th via Kscope. Alongside the announcement, the acclaimed singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has shared a brand-new single, “See The Water.”

The announcement follows Wynne’s recent signing to Kscope and the release of her single “Breathe” earlier this year.

“See The Water” is a deeply personal song for Wynne, having originally been written when she was just 16 years old after she received a dulcimer and quickly developed a folky melody in D minor.

Wynne explains:

“I wrote ‘See the Water’ in a handful of minutes when I was 16. I had just been gifted a dulcimer and found my hands quickly dancing around a folky melody in D minor. What came out was the manifestation of my inner critic. That voice inside my head that always told me I wasn’t enough, no matter how hard I tried.”

Wynne transformed that inner voice into a character representing the feeling of being “hunted and haunted” by self-doubt.

She continues:

“The imagery of water and drowning in those feelings kept coming up, and in a moment of quick inspiration, the song came out fully formed and has only changed slightly in the years since. It’s nice to finally have a studio version of it out in the world close to how I always pictured it in my head.”

Written, self-produced and largely recorded by Wynne during an exceptionally transformative period in her life, Into The Waves chronicles a period that saw her embark on her first international tour, move across the world, return to education and build a new life following years of isolation.

Much of the album was recorded on the road, with Wynne capturing performances in hotel rooms using little more than a laptop. Across the record, she plays more than a dozen instruments.

The album was completed with mixing and additional production from Justin Abel, known for his work with Noelle Johnson and The Talbott Brothers, and was mastered by Alan Douches, whose credits include Sufjan Stevens, Motörhead and LCD Soundsystem.

Into The Waves also features an impressive collection of collaborators, including cellist Bethany Joyce, violinist Avelyn Reynolds, guitarist Brooks Berg, drummers Adam Brzycki and Randy Cooke, flugelhorn player Henry Sheppard and Rush legend Alex Lifeson.

Lifeson’s guest guitar appearance further connects Wynne’s solo work with her role as vocalist for Envy of None. The Rush guitarist contributes to two tracks on the new album.

The album will be available in several physical formats, including a gatefold combo 2LP featuring purple and transparent turquoise vinyl. The edition includes Into The Waves alongside Wynne’s 2024 album Out of the Dark, which will be released on vinyl for the first time.

A gatefold black-vinyl 2LP edition will also pair Into The Waves with Out of the Dark, while a digipack CD edition will include an eight-page printed booklet.
