Boise, Idaho rock trio Lord Owl just dropped their brand new single “Whiskey From the Mountain” and it’s the band’s first release since their 2023 album The Paper Street House. Inspired by an actual hike through the Idaho mountains, the song tells a story about friendship, trudging through tough times, and making the best of an unexpected situation.

The concept for the track came from a time when the band took a trip up a mountain where they had planned to celebrate at the summit with a stashed bottle of whiskey. Instead, they found it had been stolen, emptied, and smashed. That moment turned into a reminder that plans don’t always go as planned and the people you’re with matter more than the destination.

Singer Ryan Gratton sums it up perfectly in his words, “It’s a story about friendship, camaraderie, and overcoming challenges together.”

“It’s a story about friendship, camaraderie, and overcoming challenges together.”

That story comes to life through lines like, “On a hard fought journey to the summit, a friend and I sang a drinking song,” before breaking into the singalong chorus, “Give us whiskey from the mountain…and then we’ll ramble on.” The lyrics capture the difficult aspects of a hike while driving home the song’s core message of friendship and perseverance.

Gratton says the song is about more than hiking. “It’s a song about being able to power through even the toughest times as long as you have good friends along with you.”

Made up of Ryan Gratton, Jesse Wever, and Jon O’Donald, Lord Owl continues to blend hard rock, grunge, and Americana into what they call “mountain rock”, creating songs inspired by life in the Northwest.
