AMBER – ‘Just a Daydream’ [EP] [Album Review]

The title Just a Daydream might suggest an escape from reality, but AMBER’s debut EP heads in a different direction. Across five songs, she explores what happens when imagination and real life begin to overlap, turning moments of love, heartbreak, and self-reflection into stories that feel vivid without losing their emotional honesty.

That idea runs through the whole EP. “St Tropez” opens the door to possibility, “Obsession” captures the rush of attraction, and “Say What” brings humor to the frustration of conversations that never quite happen the way they should. By the time “Find Love” and “Aromatherapy” arrive, the mood has shifted towards acceptance, giving the EP a satisfying emotional arc.

Written with producer Kipper Eldridge, the music moves between pop, soul, jazz, and funk influences while keeping AMBER’s storytelling at the center. The arrangements help create the world around each song, but it is the writing that gives the project its personality.

What makes Just a Daydream enjoyable is the way it treats imagination as part of everyday life rather than an escape from it. These songs begin with personal experiences, yet they leave plenty of room for listeners to recognize parts of their own lives along the way. That perspective gives the EP a distinctive identity and makes its title feel especially fitting.
