The Darkness Premiere Their “Masters of the Universe” Lyric Video
Glam rockers The Darkness premiere the official lyric video for their latest single “Masters of the Universe,” out now via Lakeshore Records.
Few things go better together than The Darkness and retro, 1980s-era style and energy. These worlds have collided with the premiere of the lyric video for the band’s new single “Masters Of The Universe.” The song was recorded and released as the theme song to the recently released live-action Hollywood film Masters of the Universe, based on the iconic 1980s animated series.
Released via Lakeshore Records, the lyric video features a montage of action-packed clips from the film. The tone and breadth of the song made it a perfect match for the high-stakes, high-flying energy of the movie. The lyric video’s release coincides with the release of Masters Of The Universe on Amazon earlier this week. The song packs a real punch, much like the film’s power and force.
The “Masters Of The Universe” single was originally released on May 22nd. It was the second single from Masters Of The Universe (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), with the full score released on June 5th, the same day as the film’s release. For such an over-the-top song, you need a band that can match that power and intensity. Based on their legacy, there was no better choice than The Darkness to achieve that goal. For such a tall task, it was necessary to look to the most heavy-hitting hard rock act to come out of Britain in the 21st century.
The song itself was written by Dan and Justin Hawkins of The Darkness, along with Daniel Pemberton. Pemberton is an Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning composer who oversaw the writing, recording and production of the entire film soundtrack. Also featured prominently on the soundtrack is Queen’s legendary guitarist Brian May.
The most recent Darkness album, Dreams on Toast, was released last year. This year, they supported Iron Maiden at their enormous Knebworth gig and released a greatest-hits album titled Crock of Hits. Even after more than two decades since their explosion, The Darkness are still finding new ways to mastermind new stadium rock anthems that appeal to a whole new generation of fans.
