Maya de Vitry Premieres Her Versatile New Single “Adaptation”

For any artist, faith is at the very least an undercurrent to anything you do. For Maya de Vitry, faith plays a huge role in everything she does. Today, the singer-songwriter unveils her new single “Adaptation.” The song comes from her new studio album, All My Faith, set for release on July 24th.

We have this track to enjoy until then, a caution against being too open to change if we are not actually thoroughly thinking through the situation at hand. “Adaptation” speaks to de Vitry’s honest and open approach to songwriting. Embracing her life experiences, she derives inspiration from them and maintains a strong belief in the power of songs to change us and make us better.

Commenting on “Adaptation,” de Vitry states:

“The heart of this song is that our amazing ability for adaptation—this ability to fit into new situations and environments—can actually be a trap if we aren’t reflecting on the changes. It seems like a good thing to be ‘flexible’ or ‘adaptable,’ but it’s also gotten me into trouble. We can really get used to things being the way they are, and then we can get paralyzed in all of the sacrifices we’ve made to survive in that situation—a situation that actually might be quite unhealthy or unsustainable. This song was born out of a lot of hard self-reflection and a lot of tough realizations. I hope it can help someone out there!”

Her fifth studio album, All My Faith, was an exercise in faith in many regards. For one, de Vitry showed a lot of faith in herself in the writing and recording of the album. She prioritized presence and grit over recording and producing an overly polished-sounding record. In accomplishing this, she demonstrated faith in some of her closest friends and confidantes. Musicians such as Spencer Cullum and Ethan Ballinger of Miranda Lambert’s touring band both contributed to the album as guitarists. Jo Schornikow of Phosphorescent played keyboards. They were joined by frequent members of de Vitry’s live band, including bassist Ethan Jodziewicz, drummer Dominic Billett, and vocalists Shelby Means and Joel Timmons.

Faith has brought so much to de Vitry’s life that she wanted to pour that completely into her songwriting. She maintains a strong sense of faith in not just her friends and loved ones, but also human beings in general. She finds faith in imperfection, mistakes, and people just being human. And she has faith in the idea of sharing our own stories, which can drive us closer toward compassion and gratitude. It’s all around us, and to Maya de Vitry, she has found a way for faith to drive everything she does. For her, it makes her not just a better artist, but a better person as well.
