Behind the Video: C-B7ACK Discusses His Latest Video for “B7ESSINGS”

This is his first single of the year, following up the success of last year’s “B7ESSINGS.” With “4-9 Uptown,” C-B7ACK taps into the spirit of classic East Coast hip-hop, with some additional modern trap elements. He views this as a first step into something larger for himself. He has been taking his time to fine-tune his sound and style, and this single acts as a first step into that much larger world. C-B7ACK is focused, committed, and has his sights set on elevating his game.

Originally from Newark, New Jersey, the hip-hop star derives a lot of inspiration from the hip-hop traditions of his hometown. A storyteller at heart, C-B7ACK is a masterful lyricist with confidence and swagger as big as any other MC. His production is soulful and jazz-influenced, paying tribute to the legacy of hip-hop, while offering his own unique skills and talents.

The release of “B7ESSINGS” was accompanied by an epic music video. C-B7ACK joins us today for a Behind the Video interview to discuss the clip in more depth.

What’s the concept behind the video? Help us to understand the video’s concept in more detail and how it ties into the lyrics.

C-B7ACK: “The concept behind ‘B7ESSINGS’ is that an artist enters a place of worship and spiritual significance with the intention of disrupting the congregation during the time when the choir would typically sing hymns. Instead, he begins to rap, expressing his questions and personal reflections about the world and life. The central question becomes, ‘So where are the B7ESSINGS?’

“During what would normally be a moment of confusion for the choir, they instead become intrigued and drawn into what the young MC is saying. Ultimately, they join in and support the MC.”

Did you have this concept in mind based on the song, or was the video creator given full rein to come up with a suitable visual companion?

“The concept had always been in the back of my mind, but once I sat down with the production team and ran it by them, it was a no-brainer. Big shoutout to Jacob, Kita, and Rodney. Yeah!”

What was your favourite part of the creation of the video?

“My favourite part of the creation process was meeting the members of the church and feeling so welcomed, along with receiving such positive feedback.”

Where was it made?

“‘B7ESSINGS’ was filmed at Second Baptist Church in Asbury Park, NJ.”

Based on how this one was made, are you looking forward to doing another for your latest single, “4-9 Uptown?”

“Right now, that is definitely being worked on with my team. I’m not sure whether I want to do a full-blown music video or just a live performance video for ‘4-9 Uptown,’ but whichever it is, I promise it will be epic!”

How important are music videos in terms of increased exposure?

“To be honest, nowadays I feel we are living in a time where content, not necessarily a full-blown music video, is just as important for gaining exposure. Now, don’t get me wrong, full music videos are still very effective in supporting and enhancing the music.”

Are the benefits worth the costs and effort involved?

“They could be, but marketing also plays a big factor. An artist could spend a budget of 800 to 1,200 dollars on a video with strong marketing and PR and outperform an artist who spends 5,000 to 10,000 dollars on a video with little to no marketing.”

What should a music video set out to accomplish? Do you feel like yours did that?

“It should visually capture the emotion behind the song and also tell a story that supports the music. So yes, for sure, I feel as if we accomplished that with ‘B7ESSINGS!’”
