Judy Whitmore – ‘This Is Home’ [EP] [Album Review]

Singer, licensed jet pilot, best-selling author, licensed psychotherapist, and theater producer Judy Whitmore unveils her new EP, This Is Home.

Whitmore shares, “I love my country.  America – what a concept.  The first time in modern history a nation was founded on ideals of liberty and self-rule, with citizens who govern themselves—without a king or a state-enforced religion. No wonder it’s called ‘The Great Experiment.’ I come from a patriotic family. Both of my parents were in the United States Army. If you drive by my house on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, or any other national holiday, you will see the stars and stripes flying proudly over my front door.”

This Is Home gathers a stirring lineup of American standards, produced and arranged by seven-time GRAMMY®-nominated composer Chris Walden (Paul McCartney, Barbra Streisand, Stevie Wonder). The project was recorded with a lush 39-piece orchestra, featuring many standout musicians from the Pacific Jazz Orchestra, where Walden serves as music director, and Whitmore sits on the Board of Directors.

Whitmore’s musical journey has unfolded with steady momentum. In 2012, she formed a trio with her brother and a close friend, performing in clubs across the country as well as at Carnegie Hall in New York. The group released Act Three in 2016. Her solo career took flight in 2020 with Can’t We Be Friends, followed by Isn’t It Romantic, Come Fly with Me, Let’s Fall in Love, and her 2025 holiday album, Christmas. She is also a member of The Recording Academy.

The EP begins with “The House I Live In,” wrapped in sweeping strings, gleaming brass flourishes, and a shimmering piano line. Whitmore’s expressive delivery fills the lyrics with warmth and emotional color, while the arrangement carries the grand, glowing spirit of classic musical theatre.

Another standout is “American The Beautiful.” Whitmore’s interpretation draws out the song’s tenderness and pride, creating a mood that feels both intimate and expansive. Rich vocal harmonies bring extra texture and resonance, and by the final swell, her radiant voice rises into a towering, triumphant chorus.

A personal favorite is “Over There: You’re A Grand Old Flag,” a high-energy favorite written by George M. Cohan for his musical George Washington. A touch of “Auld Lang Syne” lends the track a wistful glow before the melody bursts forward with buoyant charm. Whitmore meets that momentum with a bright, spirited performance that gives the lyrics both lift and conviction.

With This Is Home, Judy Whitmore salutes the 250th anniversary of the United States with grace, glamour, and unmistakable patriotic flair.
