Professional musician Dave Fowler has partnered with V13 Press for the release of his forthcoming memoir, BASSically Speaking, set for publication in 2026. The book chronicles Fowler’s journey from his small hometown of Swannanoa, North Carolina, to stages, studios, and television appearances around the world, offering readers an intimate look at the life of a working musician.
Fowler’s path to music began in church, where he played bass alongside his family, and quickly expanded into a career defined by talent, dedication, and versatility. Self-taught, he first played local venues before moving to Nashville, where he established himself as a sought-after bassist in both touring and studio settings. His career has included collaborations with artists such as Billy Bob Thornton (The Boxmasters), Dolly Parton, Tracy Lawrence, Dr. John, Lorrie Morgan, Collin Raye, Billy Ray Cyrus, Cinderella, and many others.
His studio credits include work with Toby Keith, Lorrie Morgan, Collin Raye, and Cinderella, and he has recorded alongside producer Bill Szymczyk of The Eagles. Fowler has appeared on major television programs, including The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The View, Jay Leno, Music City Tonight, Fox & Friends, and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. In 2012, he was entrusted with directing and hiring artists for the Presidential Elections, a recognition of his industry expertise.
Beyond performing, Fowler is a noted producer, songwriter, and co-owner of Bass Frontiers Magazine, where he served as Editor-in-Chief. In 2023, he launched music clinics in schools and churches, encouraging students to use music as a tool for stress relief, coping with bullying, and self-expression.
BASSically Speaking combines personal memoir with stories from life on the road, giving fans and readers an authentic view into the highs and lows of a professional musician’s career. Through his partnership with V13 Press, Fowler will share decades of experience, insight, and inspiration, reflecting both the triumphs and challenges that have shaped his life in music.
