Burris Releases New Orleans-Flavored Album ‘Wash Away’
New Orleans singer-songwriter Burris just dropped his third full-length album, Wash Away, a collection of songs inspired by life in south Louisiana. Burris blends roots rock, soul, and folk with that classic New Orleans flavor to create a record that feels very honest and very relatable.
Conceptually, “Wash Away is an album about life in south Louisiana, capturing both good times and bad,” Burris says. “It talks about struggling as an artist, celebrating in the heart of New Orleans, and falling head over heels in love amidst it all.”
The album opens with “Surrender,” a short 1-minute-and-19-second introduction featuring Burris’ voice backed by guitar and piano. It serves as an invitation, welcoming listeners into the record before the curtain raises.
The title track, “Wash Away,” arrives as the third song on the album and carries a pleasant, relaxed rhythm and pace underneath lyrics that reflect on storms, flooding, and the people who keep moving forward despite it all.
“How much time left? / Not much time left. / How much time ’til we all just wash away?”
Several guest musicians appear throughout the album, including Amari Ansari on “Sarah Anna,” Mikayla Braun and Ben Herrington on “Cycles,” and Ashlin Parker, Renée Gros, and Jordan Anderson on “Waiting for the Parade to Come.”
The album closes with “Parade – Reprise,” a lively, funky instrumental that serves to give listeners a taste of Louisiana.
“Recording this album was such a fun and amazing experience,” Burris says. “My hope is that listeners feel comforted and rejuvenated by the music and pulled in by lyrics that make them think.”
Take it all in and listen to the new album Wash Away, now streaming everywhere.
