As far as a band goes, The Wonder Licks are not concerned with much more than writing the best songs they are capable of. Image and extravagance take a back seat to melodies, feeling, and integrity. You hear it in their brand new single, “I See Blue.”

Pleasant, charming, and very radio-friendly, the song can’t help but make you feel good. It’s not a song that’s necessarily consigned to any musical generation, but you can certainly feel the ’90s alternative pop vibes in this one. The release of “I See Blue” is paving the way for The Wonder Licks’ upcoming full-length record, Simping for Big Toilet. Set for release in late 2026, the band has been working hard on the album with producer John Jackson (The Kinks, The Jayhawks, Caleb Caudle).

Commenting on the new song, lead singer and guitarist Jacob Wunderlich states:

“‘I See Blue’ is a paragon of my songwriting and The Wonder Licks’ music. It has melody, pathos, narrative, harmonies, and razor-sharp musicianship. By far the catchiest tune off our new album. My sister likes to say this is the one that’s going to make us famous.”

Since their beginnings, Wunderlich has been the central force behind The Wonder Licks. The core of the band is made up of him, drummer Tyler Reina, and bassist Sammy Westervelt. Outside of the core trio, they also work frequently with a rotating cast of instrumentalists and contributors. Based in New York City, they have been climbing their way up within the local indie scene. Wunderlich has paid his dues along the way, learning classical piano as a child before venturing to Nashville on his own at 18 years of age. Perhaps he was motivated by delusions of grandeur, but it helped him mature as both a person and a musician. He taught himself guitar and began to find his voice.

Wunderlich met Reina while they were both attending Belmont University in Nashville. They formed a psych-rock group called Vega Maestro, which released two records, 2020’s Hello Voyeur and 2023’s God Mic. Simping for Big Toilet will be the follow-up to the band’s debut full-length K, Ok, O.K., OKAY!. With a passion for songwriting and performing, you know what you’ll be getting: a record full of some of the best, most well-honed, and most radio-friendly indie pop you’ll find.
