London’s experimental slide guitarist Geiger von Muller has unleashed his album, Neocubist Blues, after a premiere on gratefulweb.com. It’s not merely a new genre – it’s also a new record, fusing the grit of country blues with a “cubist” experimentation. It leans into a radical edge, with 11 of the 16 tracks clocking in at around one minute. It’s all wrapped into a pure guitar-music format, stripping the sound down to the core: a single instrument “under the microscope.” It’s thrashy yet intricate.

The release has been circulating among a tight-knit circle of colleagues and independent radio stations since November. The official premiere follows a deliberate delay driven by von Muller’s alarm over social media and AI, citing the Nirvana-popularized Joe Heller adage that “just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t after you.”

Notwithstanding, his excitement remains at a self-proclaimed 300%. The figure reflects his habit of simultaneously juggling the creative processes for two or three upcoming projects. To get the full effect of a real axe banging in the room, an album cover sticker recommends this new record be played at maximum volume on your hi-fi stereo system.
