New York City band, Sons of Mercury, are back with their brand new track, “Burnin’ Bridges”. The band provides listeners with the feel of classic rock while simultaneously keeping a freshly modern style, and this new release showcases exactly what they’re all about. As the band succinctly puts it, it’s meant to be “classic rock with a refreshing, modern edge.”

The group, Michael Bode (bass), Sean Pagán (guitar), Devan Sáez (drums), and Galen James-Heskett (vocals/keys), weave together their own individual styles to create a sound that feels natural, exciting but uniquely their own. “Burnin’ Bridges” is a great example of that. The song was birthed from a lead riff, built into a heavy chorus, and was sewn together fully with lyrics inspired by method acting.

Lyrically, the song’s message is about leaving your past behind and going all-in on something, even if it’s risky to do so. There’s a strong Bonnie and Clyde vibe, with two people running, choosing their own path, no matter the consequences. Lines like “we gotta run” and “burn them bridges down and go it alone” say it all: it’s about freedom and not letting anything get in your way.

Not all studio songs translate to the live stage but this song’s energy is one you’d want to see performed at a show. It’s the kind of sound that gets the crowd going.

With the new release, Sons of Mercury keep it perfectly simple: good rock music and authentic energy. “Burnin’ Bridges” delivers exactly that.
