The Red Bull BC One All Star Tour will open in Vancouver this April, bringing world-class breakers to the city while tapping into a key moment in hip-hop history.
Widely recognized as one of the most sampled breakbeats in hip-hop, “Apache” was recorded in 1973 at Vancouver’s former Can-Base Studios by the Incredible Bongo Band. Its iconic drum and conga break became a foundational sound in breaking, later embraced by pioneers like DJ Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa, and carried through decades of sampling and reinterpretation across hip-hop and popular culture. What began as a studio recording in Vancouver went on to become “hip hop’s national anthem” and shape the global evolution of hip-hop and breaking culture, making Vancouver a significant part of that story.
More than five decades later, the Red Bull BC One All Stars will return to the site to recognize its lasting influence on the culture, including a dedicated cypher set to “Apache” on April 8, connecting the track’s legacy to the present-day energy of breaking.
The Vancouver stop (April 5–7) will feature workshops, community jams, and appearances from international breaking talent, including Canadian Olympic gold medalist Phil Wizard and Vancouver’s own Emma, leading into the April 8 cypher moment.
Phil Wizard comments:
“Breaking starts with the music, and that energy is everything. Being back home in Vancouver, where ‘Apache’ has that connection, and sharing that with the community makes this one special.”
The Red Bull BC One All-Star Tour will continue across Canada, with stops in Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montréal, building toward the Red Bull BC One World Final in Toronto on November 29, 2026. As the All-Star Tour travels across Canada this April, the final wave of tickets for the Red Bull BC One World Final Toronto will be released on April 2, 2026, at 1 PM ET at this link.
