Dutch Rock Band Iguana Death Cult Release New LP, ‘Guns Out’
Dutch rock band Iguana Death Cult has shared their new album ‘Guns Out’ and has released the single “Heavyweight.”
Dutch rock band Iguana Death Cult are sharing their highly anticipated fourth long player, Guns Out, via Greenway Records and The Reverberation Appreciation Society.
Alongside the release, the Rotterdam rockers are highlighting focus track, “Heavyweight,” a thunderous, urgent, and groovy jam that mirrors the album’s themes of raw self-reflection about themselves and the world around them.
The band explains:
“The weight of the world is weighing down on us like never before. ‘Heavyweight,’ as most of the songs on this album, laments about a growing sense of discomfort in one’s own skin as one sees the world as we know it is coming to a halt, and algorithmically designed divisiveness makes way for neofascism.
“World leaders are mainly concerned with who’s the heavyweight champion and are willing to let you and your children die over their willy measuring contest. This might feel far from reality for people in the West like ourselves, but it won’t be for long. Is it eating away at you? Is it making you sick? Is it making you doubt every single thing you took for a fact and makes you wanna give up altogether? Well, you’re not alone. But good news! You don’t have to.
“Be a heavyweight champion of your own community, your neighbourhood, your own life. Help each other out, be a good friend. There’s so much value in that.”
Guns Out marks a return to punchy garage rock and features honest self-reflection, addressing escapism, mental strain, and creative renewal. The result channels their early punk and garage roots, powered by Tobias Opschoor’s razor-sharp riffs, Uri Rennert’s (Häxxan and Brian Jonestown Massacre) relentless drumming, Jimmy de Kok’s groovy rhythms and Jeroen Reek’s raw, emotive vocals.
On Guns Out, Iguana Death Cult is exercising self-reflection on multiple levels: by breaking with the more indie-like, art-punk-funk sound of their previous album (Echo Palace, released through Innovative Leisure in 2023), returning to a more ‘in your face’ punchy garage rock style. Tough yet introspective, Guns Out captures a band coming to terms with its own evolution and the turbulent world around it.
“Heavyweight” and Guns Out are out now via Greenway Records and The Reverberation Appreciation Society.
