Dumb Crush Share “Had It” Single & Music Video
Toronto-based alt-rock trio Dumb Crush has returned with new single, “Had It,” a gritty, swaggering coming-of-age anthem.
Toronto-based alt-rock trio Dumb Crush is the result of three DIY veterans wanting to shake things up. Fronted by Owen Hooper (bass, vocals) and rounded out by songwriters Liam Colbert (Rise Carmine) (drums, vocals) and Elliott Isaac (guitar, vocals), the band formed in 2024 in a warehouse studio in Toronto.
Their debut EP, What’s Gotten Into People?, earned support from SiriusXM, CBC Radio, Line of Best Fit, DORK, and Exclaim!, while racking up nearly 250,000 streams on Spotify. The momentum carried into festival appearances, sold-out hometown shows in Toronto, and headline dates across Eastern Canada.
The band closed out 2025, dropping their sophomore EP Get Up And Go alongside a cross-Canada tour supporting Grandson. They also appeared at JUNOfest, Canada’s premier music showcase presented by CBC Music, celebrating rising artists from across the country and putting Dumb Crush alongside a broad spectrum of Canada’s most promising talent.
Today, the band returns with a new single, “Had It,” a gritty, swaggering coming-of-age anthem.
The band describes the track as:
“a commentary on the Kafka-esque nature of late-stage hustle culture and hyper-individuality maxxing that has dominated modern life.”
Hooper explains:
“‘Had It’ is a song about a guy sitting at his local, almost-sitcom-like bar, talking to his familiar, almost-sitcom-like friends, and feeling like this isn’t the way he wanted life to end up.
“He’s not sure if it’s that he was too lazy, or if it’s just been bad timing or a series of bad choices. He’s not even really sure what he would want his ideal life to look like, but he feels like he failed to end up as the person he hoped he would be. Like an indescribable itch in an unrecognizable place, he sits there and wants to scream, but he doesn’t have the mouth for it.”
With fuzzy guitars, a loose, slacker-rock edge, and an instinct for hooky, shout-along choruses, Dumb Crush channels the spirit of an early-2000s band that feels effortlessly thrown together—equal parts biting and self-aware. It’s a sound that calls out modern life while staying grounded in sharp songwriting and undeniable charm.
