Bill Scorzari Reflects on a “Stormy” Experience with “I Think It’s Gonna Rain” [Premiere]

With the many wonders of the planet that we live on, Bill Scorzari pays his tributes today on Earth Day with the premiere of his new song “I Think It’s Gonna Rain.” Along with the song comes a studio-set performance video of Scorzari and his talented backing band performing the song. The origins of the song go back to 2012, when a particular violent storm really left an impression on him.

The song is your first sampling of Scorzari’s upcoming album Sidereal Days (Day 2). The album will be released on September 25th, 2026, and will act as the second part of a double album. The first part, Sidereal Days (Day 1), was released last October. Although he has the assistance of his band, Scorzari very much encompasses the heart and the spirit of the great singer-songwriters. He is supremely focused on his words and the craftsmanship of the music, examining the human condition with his distinctive voice. Many of the songs on both albums are songs that Scorzari wrote some time ago. It felt like the right time to revisit them and record them in a fully realized manner.

Sharing with us the great story behind the writing of “I Think It’s Gonna Rain,” Scorzari states:

“I began writing this song late one night, during a Florida thunderstorm. I was staying in an apartment on the top floor of a ten-story building that was right on the Gulf of Mexico. And I noticed through the apartment windows that the island that I could see in the distance was repeatedly getting struck by lightning. I counted the seconds between the bright flashes of light and the thunder, and each time, it was getting shorter. A few hours later, at 3 am, lightning struck the building I was in and woke me up with an explosion that physically shook the entire apartment.

“I awoke again later that morning to a calm and beautiful day and went fishing on the Gulf. A giant sandhill crane took an interest in the fish I’d caught and flew in close to see what he might try to do about it. Later that evening, I was reading a book written by a retired steam locomotive engineer. I recalled his description of what was likely a local practice of sounding two short and two long whistle blasts to signal a train changing tracks. These experiences provided the inspiration and analogies for the foreboding story of impending change that is ‘I Think It’s Gonna Rain.’ The music, also inspired by these things, took on a life of its own.”

Scorzari is a New York-based singer-songwriter. Sidereal Days (Day 2) marks his sixth independent studio album, and like all of his works, it is one that is very personal to him. Featuring eleven tracks, the album is a personal investigation of Scorzari’s towards finding meaning and interconnectedness. He frequently returns to earlier times in his life before moving them forward. Many of the songs are presented in the form of a conversation. Some of the songs focus on love and self-reflection, while others are more spontaneous. Some of these tracks came quickly to him, while others were labours of love that took years to complete. The arrangements are all passionate and moving, and work very well when meshed together.

Intimate and wide-ranging, Sidereal Days (Day 2), just like Sidereal Days (Day 1), finds Scorzari, the songwriter, functioning at an elite level.
