Los Angeles quartet Atta Boy return today with their first new music in four years. The single “Haven’t Yet,” out via Diamond City, is a first taste of new material from a new album expected late spring. The song tackles the communication breakdown between a couple and the struggles to get it back on track.

Discussing the single, guitarist/vocalist Eden Brolin states:

“‘Haven’t Yet’ is about the loneliness that can come with avoidance in a partner. It’s equally about ways in which we can create an unsafe landscape for communication that feeds a similar loneliness in the other person—and ultimately the continuous commitment to mending that on a level playing field and the many extraordinary rewards that come with that.”

Atta Boy released their third album, Crab Park, in 2022 and toured heavily in 2024, including supporting Shakey Graves as well as Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners. After a writing and demo session in late 2024, the band reconvened in January of last year to begin work on the new material, only to be affected by the horrors of that month’s deadly wildfires across the region.

With pause comes perspective, though. While past albums had been completed in a matter of days or weeks, due to schedules, guitarist Freddy Reish had built out his own recording studio, The Pink Feather (incidentally named after his grandparents “saloon.”) since. The space allowed the band greater freedom and flexibility to push themselves further and explore avenues they had not yet travelled. And as a group who originally formed in high school, that only furthered their well over a decade-plus bond.

Atta Boy road tested some of the new material last autumn, supporting CAAMP along with select headlining shows. Keyboarding Dashel Thompson notes, “‘Haven’t Yet’ is special because we played it live last year, and it was the first time we played an unreleased song live. It got such a lovely reception at every show we played. I’m excited that listeners from those shows will hear the song and already have a connection to it.
