There’s a looseness to “Tread” that sets it apart from the earlier singles released ahead of 2ŁØT’s upcoming album RE/SOLVE. It feels less structured, more exploratory, even as it stays anchored in a consistent groove.

The track unfolds gradually, built around a rhythm that doesn’t shift much on the surface but keeps evolving underneath. It’s the kind of song where the details matter – the way instruments enter and exit, the subtle changes in tone that accumulate over time.

Bringing in Ben Bohorquez on flute and Evan Weiss on trumpet adds to that sense of movement. Their parts don’t dominate the mix, but they shape the feel of the track in a way that’s hard to ignore once you notice it.

Compared to “Favorite Star” and “Come Together,” “Tread” feels more relaxed in its pacing. It doesn’t try to guide the listener toward a specific emotional response. Instead, it creates a space and lets you settle into it.

That approach ties into how the band has been describing RE/SOLVE as a whole. There’s a focus on process here – on what comes after the initial burst of change or upheaval. “Tread” captures that idea in a way that’s more about atmosphere than narrative.

It also highlights the band’s background in live performance. You can hear the improvisational instincts in how the track is arranged. It doesn’t feel locked in place, even though it never fully breaks away from its core rhythm.

That balance between structure and freedom has always been part of 2ŁØT’s identity, but here it feels more refined. They’re not trying to show everything they can do at once. They’re choosing what to emphasize.

As another preview of RE/SOLVE, “Tread” adds depth without changing direction. It suggests a record that’s focused on cohesion and feel, rather than sharp contrasts or big swings.

With the album set for release on July 31st, this track helps round out the picture. It doesn’t try to define it completely, but it makes the case for listening closely.
