Thavoron – “Attitude” [Song Review]
A slow-burning revelation, “Attitude” finds Thavaron murmuring like a soul singer over atmospheric surfaces with delicious emotional clarity.
Seattle-based Cambodian American artist Thavoron (she/her) releases her new single/music video, “Attitude,” a track blending delicate folk overlays, dark, sensual R&B, and hints of indie pop.
“My attitude, rather, my sexual energy, is my superpower,” says Thavoron. “This song came from recognizing that sometimes the hurt feels desirable and understanding how much power someone can hold over you when intimacy and safety become intertwined. It’s about claiming that power back, even when it’s messy.”
The video, directed by Maddie Ludgate, depicts the interior of a hotel room, converting a transient space into a place of desire, solitude, and voyeurism. Filmed in Seattle, the shadowy visuals offer an edgy closeness that makes intimacy into something both staged and palpably real. The choreography, drawn from movements Thavoron has honed onstage over the years, suggests tension, changing the song’s smoldering unease into physical movements: controlled, seductive, and quietly feral.
Thavoron has built her career on self-sufficiency, handling the writing, production, and performance of her work on her own terms. Following the 2021 release of her debut album, Ugly, in 2024, Thavoron dropped her expansive self-titled double album. Her music is unique, imaginative, and oh-so expressive.

“Attitude” opens with the sound of blustering wind topped by Thavoron’s erotic vocals. As the luminous, elegant textures of the melody reveal themselves, Thavoron’s voice drifts, slides, and sways over shimmering harmonics that ride a hypnotically subtle rhythm. Layered vocal harmonies infuse the tune with a dreamy ambience, enhancing the sighing, voluptuous feel of the song.
A slow-burning revelation, “Attitude” finds Thavaron murmuring like a soul singer over atmospheric surfaces with delicious emotional clarity.
