JazzLab Orchestra Announce Album ‘Glissement du Temps (Slip of Time)’
Montreal’s JazzLab Orchestra returns with a powerful new project: ‘Slip of Time (Glissement du Temps),’ an ambitious recording that blends polyrhythmic, polytonal, and impressionistic musical textures into a striking contemporary large-ensemble sound.
For two decades, Montreal’s JazzLab Orchestra has been a driving force for musical creativity in Québec, across Canada, and around the world. With more than 500 international concerts to its name, the celebrated collective returns with a powerful new project: Slip of Time (Glissement du Temps), an ambitious recording that blends polyrhythmic, polytonal, and impressionistic musical textures into a striking contemporary large-ensemble sound.
Set for worldwide release on April 10, 2026, via Effendi Records, Slip of Time presents ten original compositions written by members of the collective alongside contributions from three renowned jazz composers: François Bourassa, Gentiane MG, and Pierre de Bethmann. The album captures the sophisticated writing, adventurous improvisation, and collaborative spirit that have defined the ensemble for twenty years.
Throughout the recording, each composition unfolds like a fleeting moment in time — shifting, evolving, and dissolving into expansive soundscapes where intricate rhythms and orchestral timbres weave together fluidly. Slip of Time invites listeners into a vivid sonic journey where time becomes music and music becomes memory.
Marking the 20th anniversary of the JazzLab Orchestra, the album stands as both a reflection on the group’s remarkable history and a bold vision for its future.
Slip of Time also serves as a tribute to saxophonist Mario Allard, a vital member of the collective who passed away suddenly in early 2025. His musical voice and spirit remain deeply embedded in the ensemble’s sound and resonate throughout the recording.
