Twenty-five million album sales, a GRAMMY® Award, sellout tours across the globe and a legendary Glastonbury 2024 performance: the Gipsy Kings and their founder Tonino Baliardo have come a long way since they started out playing the streets, weddings and bars of their native Arles, France in 1979. Continuing to keep the rich, passionate, virtuosic traditions of flamenco music and Catalan gipsy culture alive, the Gipsy Kings, featuring Tonino Baliardo, now share the new single “Historia.” It is the title track to their new album, which follows on May 15th via Cooking Vinyl.

The irrepressible “Historia” is full of the hallmarks that have made Gipsy Kings a longstanding international success: the sheer joy, rambunctious rhythms, fervent atmosphere that made the likes of “Bamboléo” and “Djobi, Djoba” so memorable; impassioned vocals; jazzy piano flourishes and, naturally, Tonino Baliardo’s famous and inimitable guitar style. It’s a song which represents a cocktail of all the many genres and global sounds that have inspired the band’s journey – its title is also representative of the new album’s direction.

Tonino says:

“I have always wanted to record an album where the music that has influenced my life as a Gipsy is reflected. My music has no borders, and our music is universal. I came up with the title ‘Historia’ because it means what has happened in the past, and I wanted to create an album with all the different musical influences I have experienced over the years, travelling and performing around the world. The tracks on Historia cross over from rhumba, pop, dance jazz, and of course have the passion, spirit, and love of Gipsy Kings music.”

Flamenco is inherently a genre based within the roots of family, and that’s particularly true of the rest of the upcoming Historia album. Tonino’s two sons, Cosso and Mikael, helped him write and record various tracks and ideas, while his young grandson Milan came up with the title for the song “Big Bang.” Another track, “Cielo,” is dedicated to the memory of his dear brother Paco, one of the original Gipsy Kings, who passed away during recording. The album was launched with its lead single “Señorita.”

The band’s official store offers a CD, a sand-colored vinyl, and a limited-edition blue-and-white cloud pattern vinyl. All album bundles from the official store also add a signed 12” print.

Gipsy Kings featuring Tonino Baliardo commence the “Historia Tour” in North America next month, before promising the hottest fiesta of the year with a live, raw and up-close intimate tour across Germany and Switzerland in May. Further international dates follow throughout the rest of the year. Their current tour schedule is below, and remaining tickets are available HERE.
