Melodic electronic artist Egzod recently released his latest single, “Great Escape,” featuring Finnick Jones. The track is about breaking free from self-imposed, internal chains and taking control.
Since his arrival on the scene in 2017, Egzod has amassed more than 1 billion streams and 3.9 million monthly Spotify listeners. With over 590 million streams, “Royalty,” featuring NEON, was certified Gold.
Egzod’s music has been released through Universal, Monstercat, Spinnin’, Insomniac, and Trap Nation. He’s also performed at major events including EDC Las Vegas, EDC Orlando, Lost In Dreams, Miami Music Week, Beyond Wonderland, ILLFest Austin, and Amsterdam Dance Event.
Egzod joins us today to discuss the inspiration for “Great Escape,” his creative process, and working with vocalist Finnick Jones.
“Great Escape” explores the idea of breaking free from internal struggles. Was there a personal experience or mindset that shaped the emotional core of the track?
Egzod: “It came from a very personal place, about confronting fears and wanting to break free from what holds you back. It’s less about one single event and more about a gradual realization: that the walls holding me back weren’t always external, but internal. It’s something I think everyone can relate to in some way.”
Your music often feels cinematic and story-driven. When you begin a song, do you start with a narrative in mind, or does the story emerge from the sound itself?
“Usually, it starts with sound, but for ‘Great Escape,’ it began with Finnick’s topline. Once I connected to it, the instrumental grew around that emotion. Sometimes it happens the other way around, too.”
There’s a strong sense of tension and release throughout “Great Escape.” How did you approach translating that emotional journey into the production?
“I think in cinematic terms – building tension, then letting it release. Small details, moments of restraint, and dynamic shifts are what make the emotional arc hit.”

Finnick Jones delivers a powerful vocal performance on the record. What drew you to collaborate with him, and how did your creative process come together?
“Finnick has a voice that’s both vulnerable and strong. Like I mentioned earlier, he sent that original topline, and I instantly connected with the lyrics he wrote.”
Your catalogue consistently blends emotional songwriting with festival-scale production. How do you balance intimacy and impact when creating music?
“Emotion always comes first. Even in huge drops, the human details, the vocals, melodies, subtle textures, keep it grounded and relatable.”
With over a billion streams and a global audience, how has your connection with listeners shaped the way you think about your music today?
“It’s humbling. Knowing that people connect to what I make motivates me to stay authentic and keep exploring emotions that resonate universally.”
Many of your releases carry themes of resilience, freedom, and self-determination. Why do those ideas continue to resonate with you creatively?
“Those are primal themes in my life. Writing about them lets me process my own experiences while hopefully giving listeners something to relate to and feel empowered by.”
Looking ahead, does “Great Escape” signal where your sound is heading next, or is it a snapshot of where you are creatively right now?
“It’s a bit of both. It reflects where I am now, cinematic, emotional, high-energy, but it also opens doors to new directions I want to explore, especially with the new music tools that have come out lately.”
