Last month, Dutch rock band Iguana Death Cult announced their fourth long player, Guns Out, due for release on April 10th via Greenway Records and The Reverberation Appreciation Society.

Guns Out marks a return to punchy garage rock and features honest self-reflection, addressing escapism, mental strain, and creative renewal. The result channels their early punk and garage roots, powered by Tobias Opschoor’s razor-sharp riffs, Uri Rennert’s (Häxxan and Brian Jonestown Massacre) relentless drumming, Jimmy de Kok’s groovy rhythms and Jeroen Reek’s raw, emotive vocals.

Following the release of lead single “I Like It, It’s Nice,” a quirky, off-kilter critique of consumerism in late-stage capitalism, the Rotterdam rockers now unveil the album’s title track, “Guns Out,” arriving March 3rd. Where its predecessor challenged societal excess, the new single turns inward, capturing the volatility of extreme mood swings in a chaotic, experimental rush.

The band explains:

“Throughout my life, I’ve been plagued by heavy moodswings. I’d feel either as low as an early Cure song, or so high that I’d feel even death couldn’t mess up my day. ‘Guns Out’ portrays the latter. A night out on the town with my sleeves rolled up and the fire in my eyes. Not afraid of the devil or his old mother. The pre-chorus sets a more vulnerable mood. A moment of awareness and reflection before hell breaks loose again.”

On Guns Out, Iguana Death Cult is exercising self-reflection on multiple levels: by breaking with the more indie-like, art-punk-funk sound of their previous album (Echo Palace, released through Innovative Leisure in 2023), returning to a more ‘in your face’ punchy garage rock style. Tough yet introspective, Guns Out captures a band coming to terms with its own evolution and the turbulent world around it.

“Guns Out” is out March 3rd. Guns Out is out April 10th via Greenway Records and The Reverberation Appreciation Society.
