Copper Flats Nod to Their Roots with “Country People Do” [Premiere]
Country trio Copper Flats premieres their new single “Country People Do,” an ode to the band’s roots, growing up in Arkansas.
Although country music maintains a high level of popularity, there just aren’t that many classic-sounding country groups like Copper Flats. The band returns today with that classic touch on their appropriately named new single “Country People Do” (Rock Ridge Music). The band has been on a hot streak lately, releasing a series of singles, two of which we helped premiere. This new song speaks to classic country values, inspired by the band members’ roots. The trio are proud of where they come from and the music they grew up on. “Country People Do” is a bit of an ode to the past, a tip of the cowboy hat to the good times and values of country folks. It’s a standalone single, not tied to any album or release. Each note gives you a feel for the memories of long summers, hard work, and Southern gospel music emanating from a small church.
Discussing “Country People Do,” lead singer Brandon Kelly comments:
“This one makes me feel proud of where I came from, like there’s real freedom and a little rebellion in doing things your own way and being unapologetic about it. I’d like to think the song gives the idea that, deep down, everyone has that inner desire. You don’t have to have the flashy job to be living the dream, as long as you’re free and have faith and family. That’s something worth standing tall about.”
Commenting on its origins and the creative process, guitarist Jeremy Castaldo states:
“We wrote this song with our producer, Aaron Gillespie, in less than an hour. The lyrics just kind of came together, and it was one of those sessions every writer hopes to be a part of. Them creative juices were flowin’. Musically, we hit more of a modern, singer-songwriter type of vibe for this song. I think the word smooth’ describes the musical element best for this one. It’s a windows down, radio up, and not a care in the world type of song we hope everyone can relate to.”
Guitarist Drew Smith adds:
“This song is unique in the fact that it highlights small characteristics of everyday life for so many different people. You may relate to some or even all the things ‘Country People Do,’ but no matter who you are, something will resonate in you with this one. For me, I think about my family when we play this tune. My late grandpa was a pastor, so being raised in church, I laugh a little in my head when we get to parts like ‘raise a little hell.’
“Another part that sticks out is the nod to Dale Earnhardt. My uncle was a big NASCAR fan, and if he were with us today, he’d give me a hard time for not mentioning his favourite driver, and fellow Arkansas native, Mark Martin. I’m excited for fans to hear this one.”
It’s been a steady, but quick rise for Copper Flats. The band only debuted in early 2025. In the timeframe of a year, they have released a few successful singles and established themselves as an up-and-coming act. They have built their identity quickly, not needing lots of time to find their voice or an audience. That probably has to do with the band members’ backgrounds. Smith and Castaldo are original members of the band Midnight South. They were also supporting musicians for the well-known country artist Tyler Kinch. They have also shared stages with Kenny Chesney, Parker McCollum, Justin Moore, Dylan Scott, and many more.
Copper Flats may represent a new generation of country, but they remain true to their devotion to the artists who provided them with an opportunity to be here at all.
