Catdraggon Releases New Single “Devious Serpent”
Catdraggon is back with her second release of the year in the form of her brand new song, “Devious Serpent.” She follows up her most recent song “Call My Soul Back,” with a catchy mix of glam psych rock and neo-cumbia featuring an upbeat rhythmic identity and catchy guitar riffs chock full of earworm qualities.
The track moves at an energetic pace, with layered vocals delivering the lyrics throughout the track. The sound blends retro 60s style with modern psych rock where you can hear influences like Tame Impala while remaining uniquely Catdraggon.
“Devious Serpent” takes aim at something many people know all too well: toxic workplace culture. The song touches on themes of backstabbing coworkers, the bosses who smile while making your life harder, and the pressure to keep grinding even when you’re all but burned out.
For Catdraggon, the inspiration came from painful real life experience. During a time working in the corporate world, her appendix ruptured while she was still trying to push through a work call with her boss. That moment was the inception of the song.
Instead of staying quiet about those experiences, “Devious Serpent” turns them into something loud and even at times a little playful. The song calls out the “smiling assassin” coworker who lies, cheats, and climbs the ladder by tearing others down.
To go along with the release, Catdraggon is also introducing a series of stylized characters based on classic TV villains, each representing a different type of toxic coworker.
With “Devious Serpent,” Catdraggon delivers a catchy track with a clear message: you don’t have to sacrifice yourself just to survive the system.
