Black Hats Take an Anxious Look Around with “Witness to Everything” [Premiere]
British indie outfit Black Hats comment on a common sentiment with the premiere their new single “Witness to Everything.”
With their new single “Witness to Everything,” Black Hats make an important point. As the world continues to spiral more and more out of control, all you can do is sit there and observe. And maybe gasp along the way. The young Oxford indie band deliver a nice slice of modern alternative rock with appropriate social commentary. Not meant in a way to beat you over the head with socio-political commentary. Just a group of young men trying to take it all in and make sense of it all.
Discussing the song, the band states:
“This track is our take on the state of the world and how we feel totally lost, just ‘Witnessing’ the mess. So hold our hand and let’s just pass through it and stick with our like-minded brothers and sisters.”
Black Hats is a solid indie trio, with impressive musical instincts that conjure up thoughts of the last 30 years of British indie rock. They have been compared to bands like Blood Red Shoes, Interpol, and The Young Knives. Their songs are crafted around a structure of solid grooves, reggae-infused bass lines, and scampering drum beats. There is an anxious energy to their riffs and melodies, with a punk rock vibe that injects the songs with just the right amount of urgency. The lyrics are full of witty references, which really help complete the band and make them into one solid force. Previously, they have played with acts such as Reef, Dodgy, and Stornaway, and have also appeared at festivals like the Wychwood Festival and Truck Festival.
When all you can do is stand by and look, just know that Black Hats will be standing there as well, thinking, “What the hell is going on?”
