Not just another metal band, Agarwaen are not for the faint of heart. They are forceful, in-your-face, and out to make a statement. That’s exactly the nature of their brand new music video for “God Complex.” The song comes from the band’s brand new album The Murder Trend, set for release on July 3rd via Over The Border Records. Cinematic, violent, and traumatic, this video will shock you. But it’s not intended in some gratuitous fashion. The video clip fits well with the record’s concept, and that’s all by design.

It also fits well with the band’s musical style. Agarwaen play asylum metal, a unique genre predicated on cinematic instrumentals, ferocious extreme metal, and combinations of other metal styles, spoken-word vocals, and theatrical elements. Their sound is both progressive and groovy, but as “God Complex” implies, there is a brutal, violent, mercilessness to it all.

Although great on its own, “God Complex” will sound even better when it’s heard within the entirety of The Murder Trend. That’s because it’s a concept album that is best enjoyed from start to finish. The record discusses serious topics like abuse, trauma, revenge, and outright madness. It is told as a chronological horror narrative, following a character named Anton. Anton is a boy subject to the reality of systemic cruelty. His life spirals out of control from neglect and violence towards ritualized murder. It’s a descent born out of cruelty and tragedy, and his story unfolds through the album like a story being told through the pages of a book.

The Murder Trend is a commentary on how victims can become the aggressors. It also offers a point of view on how violent trends can spread like wildfire in the modern world. Agarwaen views The Murder Trend as a modern horror tale set to music, a work that is so much more than just a collection of songs.
