Slow Burn Drifters release their new single, “The Divide,” a track from their upcoming album, Golden (Deluxe), the extended edition of the band’s debut album.

“The Divide” explores the present-day enigma of augmented emotional isolation in a world where people are continuously, virtually connected. The lyrics reveal a sense of being in a room full of people, or a planet inhabited by billions of others, yet feeling more alone than ever. People need real human connections with others.

Frontman Ray Vale explains, “True isolation is a mindset, and deep down, I believe we want to break free from it.

Produced by Vale, the track was mixed by Vale and Martin Biegger, mastered by Dave Gardner, and features Vale (vocals, guitars, bass), Violet Booth (Moog), and Jack Irons (drums, percussion). Like the band’s name, which evokes a smoldering, gliding sensation, Slow Burn Drifters’ sound occupies a space between elements of alternative indie, dream-pop, and gothic Americana.

“The Divide” rolls out on dark, desolate guitars that depict portentous surfaces, infusing the melody with a slightly sinister aura. The hypnotic rhythm adds to the eerie mood, a mood that intensifies as the harmonics adopt heavier degrees of tension. There’s an innate, deliciously wicked aspect to Vale’s vocals – rich and strong, while at the same time rasping and strangely suggestive.

With its shadowy inner complexity and spellbinding metrical flow, “The Divide” simmers with granular layers and cryptic textures.
