The multi-platinum, multi-hyphenate force, Melanie Martinez, continues paving the road to her forthcoming album, Hades, with the release of the sardonic and instantly commanding “Disney Princess.” A razor-sharp mockery of society’s commodification of women, the track reframes the idea of “selling your soul” as something far more insidious.
Speaking on the track, Melanie shares:
“I love writing about the entertainment industry and how it affects women. It’s a perfect microcosm of the world around us, how numb and disconnected you can become if you allow others to commodify you.”
True to form, Melanie doesn’t simply write songs — she architects immersive worlds with meticulous precision. This new era unfolds as a dystopian, cinematic universe that feels less like fantasy and more like a warped reflection of our own reality.
