Los Angeles rock outfit Holy Wars have returned with their new single, “Ceremony,” alongside the announcement of their sophomore album Shadow Work/Light Work, due April 24th, 2026, via Pale Chord/Rise Records BMG.

“Ceremony” explores themes of sacrifice, devotion and survival, pairing pummelling guitar riffs, driving rhythms and pulsating synths with vocalist Kat Leon’s soaring performance. The band debuted the song live throughout the summer at major European festivals, including Download Festival, Rock am Ring, Rock im Park and Rock for People, where it received immediate audience response.

Speaking about the single, Leon said:

“‘Ceremony’ at its core is about the fantasy and fear of non-existence and the times I myself have not wanted to exist anymore. However, I want to provide a message of hope and more than anything, this song is about survivalism and a hope for a better life.” She added that the song incorporates ceremonial references, including her own practice of candle magic, and centres on “owning your power and your weakness.”

The single introduces Shadow Work/Light Work, a concept album centred on grief, trauma and healing. Leon has described the record as an exploration of confronting darkness in order to find light, shaped by personal loss over the past decade. Produced by guitarist Nicholas Perez in Joshua Tree, California, the album spans some of the heaviest material of the band’s career alongside more melodic and tender compositions.

Holy Wars’ recent activity has included festival appearances across the UK and EU, support shows with Kittie, and a performance alongside Evanescence and Poppy in Alabama. In January 2026, the band appeared on ShipRocked, sharing the bill with Halestorm, Motionless In White and Knocked Loose. They are also confirmed for multiple dates of Warped Tour 2026 with more touring plans due to be announced.

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
