Canada has spawned some incredibly talented musicians and artists throughout the years, from Celine Dion and crooner Michael Bublé to rock band Nickelback.

Rapper Drake also belongs on this exceptional list, becoming the highest-certified digital singles artist ever in the United States. In fact, he has shifted 142 million units in the US across combined sales and on-demand streams to date.

However, Drake has also become embroiled in a contentious and increasingly bitter feud with rival Kendrick Lamar in recent years. On the other hand, Drake is well known as an avid, high-stakes sports bettor in the online casino world. We’ll take a closer look at Drake’s life and career in the article below, while addressing his recent achievements as a Billboard 200 artist.

Sports Betting and Kendrick – The Other Side of Drake

In contemporary Internet circles, Drake is almost as renowned as a sports bettor as he is for his musical accomplishments. For years, an Internet meme has persisted about Drake’s failed sports wagers, causing some to suggest that his backing may actually curse professional teams and players.

However, sports betting and online casino play are inherently unpredictable, and the statistics show that Drake is actually $213.93K up across his historic public betting positions. Out of 83 public bets, he has placed 30 winning wagers in total, while NFL outcomes have delivered his highest profit level overall (+$1.68 million).

Intriguingly, Drake has lost a huge $3.93 million across his sports betting activity since Kendrick Lamar released his notorious diss-track Euphoria on April 30th, 2024. This triggered the aforementioned feud between Drake and Lemar, while the follow-up track Not Like Us (released on May 4th, 2024) remains the subject of a defamation lawsuit.

Drake’s initial defamation lawsuit against Kendrick and the Universal Music Group was dismissed by a federal judge last October. However, the Canadian star has subsequently filed a 117-page appellate brief challenging this decision, arguing that it sets a dangerous precedent for the music industry.

Drake argues that the song was published by UMG despite their knowing it contained false and defamatory content. It will be interesting to see how this legal situation develops in the months ahead.

Drake and the Billboard 200 – Why the Rapper’s Musical Excellence is Undoubted

Successful superstars like Drake often end up transcending their industry, with the rapper’s feuds, legal challenges and passion for sports betting now covered almost as extensively as his music.

However, it should be noted that Drake’s high profile and global stardom are built on his musical accomplishments, with no artist selling more digital units in North America. Drake has also become a prominent Billboard 200 force during his career, sharing the stage with some of the greatest and most talented musicians of all time.

The history of the Billboard 200 album chart is rich, having hosted a litany of musical stars since its inception on March 24th, 1945. Unsurprisingly, the Beatles rank top on the Billboard 200, having spent an incredible 132 weeks at number one in total. Taylor Swift (98 weeks) and the legendary Elvis Presley (67) make up the top three, while Drake ranks joint-11th alongside Harry Belafonte and The Monkees.

Overall, Drake has spent 37 weeks at number one, making him the leading hip-hop artist on the Billboard 200. Drake is also the highest-ranking Canadian on the list, with 13 of his 37 weeks at number one having come as a result of his iconic Views album. He also ranks above iconic stars such as Eminem, The Eagles and even Prince.

The Last Word

Drake continues to collect accolades, too, receiving his fourth career SOCAN Songwriter of the Year award in 2025. This event also saw him collect three Rap Music awards, one R&B Music Award and a single Dance Music accolade. Overall, Drake took home a single-night record of six SOCAN awards last year.

Ultimately, Drake’s musical accomplishments should not be underestimated, as by some metrics, he’s now the most successful Canadian artist of all time. He also continues to produce music to an incredibly high quality, as his recent performance at the 2025 SOCAN awards showcased.

So, although Drake will continue to make the headlines for his public sports bets and ongoing feud with rival Kendrick Lamar, this should not distract us from his brilliance and innovation as an R&B great.
