Delta Sweet Takes the Long Way Back on “The Backroad of Memory Lane”
Country music storyteller Delta Sweet returns with his new single “The Backroad of Memory Lane,” his first release with New Motor Records.
Country music storyteller Delta Sweet returns with his new single “The Backroad of Memory Lane,” marking his first release under his new deal with New Motor Records. The gritty modern country track is the latest release from JUNO Award-winning artist Patrick Kordyback – frontman of multi-platinum band Stereos – as he continues to carve out his lane as a solo country artist.
Built on soaring hooks and crunchy guitars, “The Backroad of Memory Lane” explores nostalgia as both comfort and caution. While the song leans into familiar imagery of the “good ol’ days,” it ultimately questions the pull of living too deeply in the past – and how memories, while intoxicating, can quietly stall forward motion.
Delta Sweet comments:
“I’m someone who’s lived what feels like ten different lives. I’ve seen the highest highs of pursuing this crazy dream in music, I’ve been married to the love of my life, and I’ve also had to live with and learn from what it feels like to lose both. Nostalgia is a super powerful motivator for me, but getting too caught up chasing memories can cloud what’s important in the present and moving forward. I very intentionally use the metaphors in the chorus of substances that feel great in the moment that can also lead to a dangerous path if they’re relied upon too heavily.”
Produced by Shawn Moore, the track highlights Delta Sweet’s signature balance of modern country sonics and rock-influenced guitar tones. It’s a sound he describes as “songs that give you sugar with your medicine” – instantly catchy, with emotional weight beneath the surface. The music video, directed by CCMA Award-winning Travis Nesbitt, will arrive on March 6th.
“The Backroad of Memory Lane” follows a breakthrough run for Delta Sweet, including radio chart success and high-profile performances at the Calgary Stampede and Country Music Alberta’s CCMA Showcase, with additional major festival appearances slated for this summer.
Though now fully embracing country music as a solo artist, Kordyback first rose to national prominence as the frontman of Stereos, who broke through on the MuchMusic series DisBAND. The group quickly skyrocketed to success with a gold-selling debut album and multi-platinum singles like “Throw Ya Hands Up” and “Summer Girl,” earning two JUNO nominations, three SOCAN #1 Awards and a fiercely loyal fanbase.
While Stereos became known for their genre-blending pop-rock sound, country music has always been part of Kordyback’s creative DNA. Elements of that influence surfaced throughout the band’s catalogue – in songs like “Way Back Home,” “Wild Hearts,” and “Glory Days” – and now take centre stage through his solo work.
Kordyback comments:
“Country radio was the soundtrack to every camping trip, lake weekend, bike ride, Slurpee, you name it. I think the biggest influence this has had on the music I’ve released previously is the fact that I always wanted every song to tell a story. No genre of music can tell a story better than country.”
Fans who’ve long connected with Kordyback’s melodic instincts and straightforward songwriting will find that familiarity intact, even as Delta Sweet’s sound continues to evolve.
He adds:
“My writing style and voice are always me — that’s what keeps it authentic. I always start with melody to make sure the hooks are strong, but I’ve grown a lot as a storyteller through Delta Sweet. It’s added another layer to what I do.”
