Austin, TX based band Cowboy Diplomacy are back with their first release of the year, “Wild Side.” The song showcases a different side of the band, representing more of a stripped down and sentimental approach than past releases, trading big riffs for space and emotion.

“Wild Side” has a wide open sound with smooth layers and rich textures. Ian Cochran’s character-filled vocals take center stage. His voice carries the weight behind the track’s meaning, telling a story about temptation and losing control. As Cochran explains, “It’s a song about resisting the devil’s temptation. Listen to the angel on the other shoulder.”

Lyrically, the song talks about chasing something exciting and dangerous, only to realize too late that it’s taken over. The “wild side” represents that thrill, fun at first, but hard to escape once it has you. Lines like “Hunter becomes the hunted” and “Predator becomes the prey” drive home the idea that what you think you control can quickly turn on you.

Cowboy Diplomacy was formed by lifelong friends Ian Cochran and Brad Bentley, who moved from San Diego to Austin after a road trip sparked a bigger vision together. The band quickly became known for their raw southern rock and blues sound, earning praise from outlets like GroundSounds and All Things Go.

With “Wild Side,” Cowboy Diplomacy continues to do what they do best: keep it honest, gritty, and straight from the heart.
