Zain Effendi – “Opening” [Song Review]
On “Opening,” Zain Effendi captures the splendid feeling of life’s potential, taking listeners on an odyssey through a musical wonderland.
Born in Colorado and trained at Berklee/Boston Conservatory, Zain Effendi released his album, EPCOT: Test Track (Original Soundtrack) at the end of the summer. The opening track of the album, aptly entitled “Opening,” received a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Instrumental Composition.
“Opening” has topped Amazon’s charts, hit #1 on the official Walt Disney World playlist, and reached the iTunes Top 10 while playing continuously at Disney World.
Coming in at just under five minutes in length, “Opening” sets the stage for the entire score of EPCOT’s Test Track attraction, which encompasses 70 minutes of symphonic majesty that redefines the concept and boundaries of theme park music. Effendi’s music also echoes across Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Disney’s Starcruiser Hotel, and Shanghai Disneyland’s music Adventure in Rhythm.
Effendi’s career took off when he was 23 years old, when Hans Zimmer invited him to become part of Remote Control Productions. He participated in some of the renowned scores in today’s world: The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Transformers, Kung Fu Panda, and Frost/Nixon.
Since going solo, Zain has scored projects for Disney, Sony, Warner Brothers, and Bad Robot, earned a GRAMMY® nomination, won Best New Composer at the Hollywood Music & Media Awards, two Telly Awards, an HMMA win for Best Live Concert, and multiple World Entertainment Awards.

“Opening” rolls out on bold, adventurous surfaces, flowing into a sparkling, inspiring melody that descends to layers of swaying, gliding, streaming tones. Emerging brass colors slowly expand, elevating the music to soaring levels. The mood of the song is emotionally uplifting, imbuing listeners with a sense of ‘nothing is impossible,’ and ‘anything can happen’ if you believe.
