A band who transcend genres, Southend-on-Seas goth/post-punk/psychedelic band The Horrors are heading into an incredible twentieth year as a band and, as their new album, Night Life showcases, they head into that milestone continuing to push the boundaries of their boundary-defying sound. Now with new recruits Amelia Kidd on keys and Jordan Cook on drums, the UK outfit hit the road for a celebration wrapping up a week of shows at the O2 Forum in London.
Built around core members Faris Badwan and Rhys Webb, the band open their set with two new tracks in the form of “The Silence That Remains” and “Three Decades” and, under a moody atmosphere, deliver a set that feels both familiar to fans but also the start of a new chapter in their story.
Balancing new material from Night Life alongside fan favourites like “Mirror‘s Image” and “Still Life”, the choice of material pulled from their two decade long catalogue marked a reflective look at their past, a joyful celebration of their achievement, and an intriguing taste of the future. Closing their set with “Something To Remember Me By”, this was as much a perfect way to wrap up a tour as it was to signal the next chapter in their genre-breaking career. The release of the album heralded a shift with these live dates providing the perfect springboard to an exciting future.
