PDC World Darts Championship Remaining at Alexandra Palace Until 2031
Professional Darts Corporation and Alexandra Palace have announced the World Darts Championship will continue at the Palace until 2031.
Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and Alexandra Palace have confirmed the World Darts Championship will continue at the Palace until at least 2031.
The agreement will also see the event’s capacity transformed, with the arena moving from its current location in the Palace’s West Hall, into the larger Great Hall from 2026. This will increase capacity across the three-week tournament by over 70,000 to 180,000, with individual sessions growing to more than 5,000 capacity – meaning even more fans can experience the tournament, at a time when there is unprecedented demand for tickets.
This year’s Championship runs from Thursday, December 11th to Saturday, January 3rd, with Luke Littler defending the title he won in astonishing fashion almost twelve months ago.
The World Darts Championship has been hosted at Alexandra Palace since 2007 and has grown to become a bucket-list event, with fans from across the world – typically decked out in elaborate fancy dress – creating a one-of-a-kind sporting atmosphere that’s a staple of the nation’s festive calendar.
Matt Porter, PDC Chief Executive, comments:
“Alexandra Palace has become synonymous with the World Darts Championship, and we are thrilled to extend our partnership through to at least 2031.
“Ally Pally at Christmas is the identity of the tournament, and it produces an incredible atmosphere that makes it one of the most iconic sports events in the world.
“Demand for tickets has never been higher, and moving into the Great Hall from the 2026/27 event will allow us to welcome more fans than ever before while continuing to elevate the experience.
“When we have looked at moving into the Great Hall previously, there have been obstacles which have prevented it from being possible, but these have now been overcome, and we’re excited to be able to present what will be a landmark moment for the sport of darts.”
Alexandra Palace Commercial Director Lucy Fenner says:
“We’re honoured to have been home to the Worlds since 2007 and proud to extend our partnership with the PDC to at least 2031.
“We are delighted so many fans around the world will have the opportunity to experience an electric atmosphere like no other. Christmas isn’t complete without the presents, the turkey and the tradition of making the annual pilgrimage to the darts at Ally Pally.
“Working with the PDC has always been about evolving and innovating the tournament. Moving into the Great Hall from 2026 is the next chapter in an incredible journey that will take the event to a different stratosphere.”
Alexandra Palace Chief Executive Emma Dagnes OBE states:
“For us as a charity, events like the darts have a seismic impact. Not only do they provide experiences of a lifetime, but the revenue we generate supports our work to care for the Park and Palace, and deliver our learning and cultural programmes, which bring huge benefit to millions of people every year.”
The new agreement further extends the history of Alexandra Palace and darts, which dates back to The News of the World Darts Championship that was held in the Great Hall from 1963 to 1976.
In addition, the Matchroom Charitable Foundation have extended their support to Alexandra Palace’s Creative Learning programme, providing £300,000 across three years. The funding will enable the Palace’s learning team to develop a range of projects, which currently support over 10,000 from the local community each year, including initiatives such as arts sessions for people living with dementia, outdoor learning opportunities for local schools, and providing access to workshops and training for young people seeking to build careers in the creative industries.
The draw for the Paddy Power World Darts Championship 2025/26 was made on November 24th. For full details, visit www.pdc.tv.
