Ontario based musician and producer, Mike Galvin, just released his brand new song, “Farewell.” The instrumental song lets changing soundscapes and moods tell the story, one that feels heavy and quietly hopeful.

Galvin’s musical path has taken him down many paths. He started with classical music, played in indie bands, and spent time in Dublin’s underground rave scene in the 2000s. Along the way he picked up inspiration from jazz, film scores, and the house and techno coming out of Berlin and Detroit. After moving to Toronto in 2015, he kept adding to his sound, playing session guitar and scoring the award-winning Irish short film A Silence Between.

With “Farewell,” he blends all those influences into one package. The composition starts dark and tense, bursts into something chaotic, and then settles back into a calmer, reflective vibe, like the quiet after a long night out. The ending leans toward optimism, but still leaves a question hanging in the air.

“This is my warning for humanity as we continue to destroy ourselves . . .”

In his words, “This is my warning for humanity as we continue to destroy ourselves through corruption, ignorance, greed, science denialism, fear, and bigotry. I explore these themes by using a dark and foreboding intro before an explosion to violence, a moment of reflection and clarity , then a transition to a cautiously optimistic closing section.” The song is a warning about the things tearing the world apart. The music doesn’t try to give answers, but it embodies the weight of the moment.

The resulting single is emotional, atmospheric, and deeply human, without a single word.
