Josh Rennie-Hynes Releases New Album ‘Stars in the Southern Sky’
Australian turned Nashville resident Josh Rennie-Hynes just released his new album Stars in the Southern Sky, an open and honest look at what it means to exist inbetween two worlds. Known for blending folk, indie rock, and a bit of dream pop, together to create his sound, Josh continues to progress as an artist while keeping his storytelling as the focal point of his music.
The album was written during a period of big life changes. Josh reflects on the distance between Australia, where he grew up on a farm in Queensland, and the American South, where he’s built his current life in Nashville. In his words, “It’s my most Australian-leaning release to date—a collection of songs shaped by distance, longing, and the things I carry with me wherever I go.”
“. . . a collection of songs shaped by distance, longing, and the things I carry with me wherever I go.”
Musically, Stars in the Southern Sky is warm, calm, and full of the open landscapes that have inspired him since the beginning. His voice carries a steady mix of honesty and nostalgia, giving the record a grounded, lived-in feel.
With six acclaimed albums already behind him and features in shows like Netflix’s Virgin River, Josh is staking out his place in modern folk and Americana. Stars in the Southern Sky feels like both a reflection and a reset, an album about where you come from, what you miss, and the new life you build along the way.
