Atlanta based indie-rock band Jaguar Glass just released their new single “Anchor.” The release feels retro and futuristic all at once. The track opens with synths, vocals and tasteful texture work creating a spacey soundscape, almost like you’re floating in space, before the drums kick in pulling you into the psychedelic rock ether.

The band formed back in 2020 when producer Tomás Uribe and songwriter Sophia Trautman started working together. They teamed up with bassist Josiah Soren, and later drummer Ben McEntire, who rounded out the current ensemble. After recording a couple songs at Maze Studios, Jaguar Glass finally started putting out music and building a bold, colorful visual style to match.

“All of your fears are anchors made of feathers”

The narrator of the song is watching someone they love drift away emotionally, like they’re numb and checked out. The chorus asks, “Why are you so down these days? / You let our love disintegrate / Why are you so numb these days? / You let our love just fade away.” There’s a simultaneous blend of frustration and worry.

Even though the lyrics seem to tell a sad story, they also convey some level of comfort. Lines like “All of your fears are anchors made of feathers” feel like they’re saying that everything weighing you down might not actually be that heavy.

Instead of feeling like just another sad love song, “Anchor” mixes emotion with a sound that feels other-worldly. Jaguar Glass shows us they’re not just experimenting anymore, they’re locking into something that’s completely their own.
