IRIEspect – ‘Lost In Time’ [EP] [Album Review]
With ‘Lost In Time,’ IRIEspect offers a stylish reggae fusion brimming with buoyant tropical vibes and sonic complexity.
New York-based reggae, dub, jam, hip-hop, and Latin outfit IRIEspect releases their new EP, Lost In Time, featuring grand production values and collaborations with Ras Ajai, Skygrass, and Duvbear.
Along with being road warriors, performing hundreds of shows every year, IRIEspect has shared the stage with artists like Inner Circle, Barrington Levy, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Pepper, Badfish, Fortunate Youth, Sister Nancy, Artikal Sound System, and Pete Francis of Dispatch.
In 2024, IRIEspect dropped their debut long player, featuring “Strong Island.” The band followed up with a series of singles in 2025: “Want Me Too,” “Nuh Leave Me Alone,” “Lost,” and “Me Gustas Tu.”
Encompassing five tracks, entry points on Lost In Time include the opening track, “Want Me Too,” a bright and breezy reggae tune with sparkling, feel-good surfaces and beaucoup upbeat dynamics. Velvety vocals and soft, radiant harmonies give the lyrics luscious polish.
With its dancehall flavors and hints of misty psychedelic colors, “Nuh Leave Me Alone,” featuring Nick Corredor, rolls and glides on an almost mystical motion. A slicing guitar solo lights the song up.
“Lost” highlights a tasty, rootsy, one-drop beat, skiffing melody, and the silky braying of brass. Whereas “Me Gustas Tu” reveals delicious textures of Latin reggae merged with hip-hop. A cascading guitar imbues the tune with gleaming, flowing tones.
With Lost In Time, IRIEspect offers a stylish reggae fusion brimming with buoyant tropical vibes and sonic complexity.
