Pacific Northwest R&B artist Rocky Sandoval achieved a milestone rarely seen for independent musicians: his latest single, “It’s My Fault,” cracked the iTunes R&B/Soul Top 100, peaking at #78, alongside legacy acts such as Prince, Alicia Keys, Marvin Gaye, Joe, and John Legend.

The achievement came without a record label and without paid promotion; fueled solely by Sandoval’s grassroots support network, loyal fans, and the hometown community that rallied behind him.

“It’s My Fault” climbed from #141 → #108 → #102 → #83 → #78, holding a Top 200 position for over 39 consecutive hours, an unprecedented feat for an unsigned artist navigating the charts independently.

The track, a ’90s-inspired – yet very much of the moment – R&B confession, is an anthem of vulnerability, accountability, and emotional maturity.

Sandoval comments:

“This wasn’t a moment for just me. This was a win for the entire Pacific Northwest. We proved what happens when a community rallies around its own. No label. No industry push. Just heart, hustle, and real people behind the music.”

This weekend’s chart moment adds to Sandoval’s growing list of independent achievements, including a digital billboard appearance in Las Vegas, high-engagement social media rollouts, and a strengthening presence on Apple Music and Spotify.

Tacoma has produced notable figures in hip-hop and soul, but Sandoval’s charting marks a rare iTunes breakthrough specifically for an independent R&B vocalist in the region.

His success underscores a bigger movement in the Pacific Northwest: A rising wave of homegrown artists bypassing traditional industry pathways and building their own momentum through authenticity and community-building.

Born in Baguio City, Philippines, Sandoval grew up in a world filled with music. From the classic Motown tunes his parents spun to the saxophone his grandma used the last of her pension to buy him, his fate was written from a young age. Since that day, Sandoval has released a trove of music, toured with R&B legends, been featured on television and radio, headlined festivals, and sold out countless shows. He has recorded with Grammy-winning super-producers The Stereotypes and Tha Bizness and released the single “Deadstock” with Warner Music Philippines.

Seeking to serve his dedicated fanbase and social media following, Sandoval launched Tacoma, WA-based Baguio City Music Box, an indie label, clothing brand and music entity.

Known for his emotional storytelling, powerhouse vocals, and ability to fuse ’90s R&B with contemporary production, Sandoval has become a cornerstone in the PNW music scene. His upcoming project, Monarch, is slated for 2026, with monthly singles and community-focused rollouts leading up to its release.
