Once Mortals Gearing up to Release New Single, “Burning Away”
Netherlands-based groove metal band Once Mortals return with their heaviest and most personal release to date; the new single, “Burning Away,” drops November 28th!
Netherlands-based groove metal band Once Mortals return with their heaviest and most personal release to date. Their new single, “Burning Away,” drops November 28, delivering a raw eruption of weight, emotion, and intent.
Driven by pounding grooves, dense guitars, and unfiltered vocals, “Burning Away” tackles the moment of walking away from everything—societal pressure, fractured relationships, imposed paths, expectations, and betrayal. The track confronts the urge to strip life back to zero, dive into the unknown, and endure the pain required to transform and reconnect with one’s true self.
Musically, Once Mortals lean further into a darker, heavier edge while maintaining the rhythmic pulse that defines their sound, balancing aggression with atmosphere and emotional weight.
Once Mortals formed their identity around modern groove metal—focused, riff-driven, and direct. “Burning Away” marks a clear evolution: sharper writing, stronger dynamics, and a more confrontational lyrical approach.
The band comments:
“This song came from a breaking point. It’s about shedding everything that doesn’t belong to you anymore—even if it hurts—and stepping into uncertainty to find who you really are.”
