Kaytranada and Justice opened their fall North American tour with a sold-out show at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena.
The highly anticipated concert drove fans from all over the Vancouver mainland, and all ages, some of them not very clear about how everything was going to work, made it a bit late to the show, but surely, they had a great time.
The opener, Sam Gellaitry, was supposed to start his set at 7 pm, but decided to start his set as soon as the door opened at 6 pm, something that the early birds appreciated. He performed for about 90 minutes, playing some of his original songs like “Start Up A Rumour,” “Assumptions,” and remixes of popular songs like “Another Brick in the Wall Part 2” by Pink Floyd.
There was some uncertainty about Kaytranada, who was the first headliner, because the main stage was not set up properly for him. Later, we noticed that an unfamiliar thing, hanging above the middle of the floor, started descending, and that was going to be Kaytranada’s stage for the night.
As soon as the circular stage lay on top of the platform set below it, Kaytranada ran to the stage and started his magic. He opened with “Drip Sweat,” and immediately everybody started dancing.
Kaytranada played his remixes of “Be Your Girl” by Teedra Moses, “Alright” by Victoria Monét, and even “Assumptions” from Sam Gellaitry. He played 30 songs in total, but the arena could have gone for 30 more.
When Justice hopped on the stage, the madness started. The combination of their tracks and lights design was out of this world. The light panels were moving in all directions, flashing, and their signature cross in the back.
They did a match of their songs and opened with “Genesis x Phantom (WWW)” / “Generator” / “Canon x Love S.O.S. (WWW).” They closed with “D.A.N.C.E. x Fire x Safe and Sound (WWW)” / “Neverender,” and ended their set with the fans at the barricade.
