Edan H Premieres His Stadium-Sized “Give It Up (Never Gonna)” Music Video
EDAN H reminds us of great times gone by with the premiere of the music video for his arena rock-ready new single “Give It Up (Never Gonna).”
Some generations of rock music age better than others, and Edan H is putting that to the test with the premiere of his new music video for “Give It Up (Never Gonna).” In the ’90s rock scene, ’80s rock was made to seem so dated and uncool. Not so much anymore.
It seems the ’80s have aged just fine, and Edan delivers plenty of the high-octane arena rock typical of that era with this new single. The guitar riffs are infectious, and the vocals sound like they could effortlessly carry from the stage all the way to the very back row of a stadium. The video clip itself is simple, but effective. It doesn’t necessarily take a stadium setting to feel that stadium-sized energy. The track is a full-on tribute to the glory days of unfiltered, unapologetic heavy ’80s rock.
With some comments on “Give It Up (Never Gonna),” Edan tells us:
“This track is an anthem for anyone who refuses to quit. It is about resilience, defiance, and staying true to yourself. I did not want to reinvent anything here. I wanted to make something that could’ve come straight off a cassette in 1987, windows down, volume up.”
There’s no shame in that approach, as Edan puts it in practice beautifully. Based in Melbourne, EDAN H (aka Edan Hoy) has been a longtime mainstay of the local rock scene. He played in various bands until 2018, when he finally decided to launch his solo project Back to Eden. He then released the Blackened Heart EP, a nice combination of melody and heaviness. EDAN H is the moniker he has now adopted to release his music, which is, in a sense, a tribute to his youth. As a kid, he loved both heavy riff-oriented bands like Black Sabbath, but also glam rock or what they called “hair bands.” Most of his songs combine both styles, but “Give It Up (Never Gonna)” is an all-in tribute to big hook, leather-clad rock.
With so much disarray and uncertainty in the world, it’s nice to have artists like EDAN H who you can just lean back on and feel reassured that some things remain the way they should.
