Hip-hop is and always has represented a lot of things, and rap artist and songwriter Cass demonstrates that throughout his new record, Hip Hop Head. Back in May, we helped introduce you to the record, with the premiere of the music video for the single “My Algorithm.” Since that time, Cass has been riding a wave of momentum and an overall positive response to the record.

Still riding on that wave, today he unveils the music video for his next single, “Rain Clouds.” While much of Hip Hop Head is Cass doing what he does best, poking fun and keeping things lighthearted, “Rain Clouds” features a more serious tone. The video clip is just him, out for a walk alone, reflecting on things. In essence, it’s him “facing the music” so to speak, confronting his thoughts and his fears, and trying to come to terms with it all.

Elaborating on the song, Cass tells us:

“I believe the best art comes from the middle of the storm, not after it passes. ‘Rain Clouds’ stands out from the rest of the tracks on Hip Hop Head like truth in a city that’s tried to forget its own. Most of Hip Hop Head is aggressive and satirical. It’s me punching back at life, or laughing in its face. But ‘Rain Clouds’ is just me… sitting in it.”

Hip Hop Head has been Cass’s moment to shine. He spent years guest appearing on records by many other artists. It’s a tried, tested, and true method for up-and-coming artists to gain exposure in hip-hop. And Cass is appreciative of those collaborations. They have helped him grow towards this moment where he has found his own space to emerge in his own way. Really, at the heart of it is Cass’s modest roots, growing up in Kansas City, Missouri. He represents that hometown pride throughout the album, while also paying respect to his hip-hop heroes. For a debut hip-hop album release, Cass has done it all the way it should be done, remaining confident, yet humble and appreciative.
