Anja Churchill Nods To A Classic With “La bohème”
Anja Churchill continues her active 2025 with a soft, modern take on the classic French song “La bohème.” Following “Not The End” and her EP Children of the North, this release showcases her blend of indie-pop and light jazz sensibilities in a smooth and relaxed setting.
Her version is slow and emotional, built around piano, a steady bass line, underneath her calm, soulful vocal work. She keeps key lines from the original song, sung in French, letting the message shine through:
“Je vous parle d’un temps que les moins de vingt ans ne peuvent pas connaître”
“I speak of a time people under twenty can’t know.”
“La bohème, la bohème / Ça voulait dire on est heureux”
“Bohemia, bohemia / It meant we were happy.”
Inspired by today’s French alt-pop scene, Anja worked with Swedish producers Micke Lyander and Erik Ronström to shape the dreamy, minimal sound. The result feels nostalgic while simultaneously built for today’s listener.
Anja’s music often comes from real life experience, moving from Los Angeles to the island of Gotland, living with chronic illness, and finding solace in quieter places. Her style is gentle, emotional, and atmospheric.
With “La bohème,” she brings new life to a classic while keeping its original spirit intact.
