After an impressive year winning a BMI Pop Award for the songwriting work he did alongside other artists, AJ Yorio is back making noise under their own name. His new song, “Volcano”, is the third single he’sreleased since he dropped his rock album Gush. The track, and its official music video, dropped right at midnight on Halloween.

Yorio says, “Volcano is about the battle for control inside your own head between competing voices.” It’s raw and honest, the kind of song that conveys a feeling fitting for its name. “It’s an entirely selfish release as usual—no big expectations,” he adds. “Just a sigh of relief that the art I’m making right now is 100% myself.”

“Just a sigh of relief that the art I’m making right now is 100% myself.”

The lyrics tell the story of someone who’s blown up their own world and has to face the fallout. Lines like “How can a man blow up his world so fast?” and “The king’s on his knees without his fair queen” show regret and the pain of losing something important. But even in the mess, there’s a sense of power and acceptance of the chaos.

“Volcano” comes off as authentic and real. It’s AJ Yorio proving that being honest and vulnerable can still hit just as hard as any chart-topper.
